Hey guys,

About 3 years ago I made a big shift in the type of decoys that I use for Canada goose hunting and I figured I would share my experience with you and why I made this shift.

First off, I’ll tell you that when I got into goose hunting about 12 years ago I did not hunt with any fancy decoys at all.

In fact, it was quite the opposite.

The first goose decoys I ever used were some old banged up decoys that I bought off Craigslist.

I got 18 shell decoys and 6 full body decoys for $80.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a good deal and it served the purpose for that moment.

However, as time went on I needed to expand my decoy spread and those old decoys had seen their better days.

Initially, I began looking at full body decoys as it seemed like everyone was raving about them and how good they looked.

No doubt I agreed but there were three BIG problems.

  1. Full body goose decoys are super expensive
  2. I had a small 4 door car that could not hold a big spread of full body decoys
  3. The storage space at my house is extremely limited

So I started looking at other options that would be more affordable as well as fit in my vehicle and not take up a ton of storage space in my house.

This is when I discovered silhouette goose decoys and man was I happy I did.

They fit my needs exactly because they were extremely affordable, easy to store and transport and best of all they were very effective!

To start off I got two dozen to see how they would work but after using them for just one trip and bagging some honkers I added 3 more dozen to my spread.

What I loved the most is that I could pack all 5 dozen in my silhouette decoy bag in my trunk and easily carry them across the field to my favorite hunting spot.

They have saved so much work for me over the last few years and again I have always had as much success as some of those guys in the area that spend thousands on full body decoys.

There are few tips that I learned on how to use silhouette decoys effectively which I wrote an entire blog post on here.

Ultimately, I wanted to share my experience with you on why I switched to using silhouette goose decoys for Canada goose hunting.

The brand I found is Dive Bomb Decoys.  Great product, great price.

I mean at $79 per dozen it is a great price to either add to your existing decoy spread or to start building one.

Hopefully you found this information useful and please let me know if you have any questions.

P.S.  Here is the link for the $79/dozen silhouette decoys.
